Sitting (sometimes called Hiking): Ah, there is nothing like retirement. Sitting around with a few friends and enjoying the conversation and the day. These sitters just returned from a short hike in and out of Walmart aisles, through Men’s Furnishings, Video Games, Women’s Dresses, Women’s Shoes, Electronics, Video Games, and the in-store Starbucks.

Most SIR hikes are planned to be of reasonable length, but sometimes the ambience, the intoxication, the invigorating aroma of the environment, and comradery overwhelm the moment and time has no meaning. When asked about a walk in the park, it’s not unusual for a SIR to reply, “The walk is so beautiful that I don’t even know when I’ll get back”.
When Branch 8 learned the Metropolitan Opera was intending to broadcast their season productions, SIRs demonstrating a flair, nay, a genius for singing and acting, impulsively organized an operatic production of their own.
Yes, it would have been sweet to perform Don Giovanni (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) up on stage, but alas the only venue was the lunch room at the Hilton.
I got myself involved with Bocce Ball and it’s a great way to spend time pretending to be doing something athletic. Now that I’ve played a while, my ultimate goal is to play at night with glowing balls.
